On February 9th, 2018 my Middle School was the first in the County to test a new app for Google. Google sent a representative to our school with phones to test their new app Google Expeditions Augmented Reality(AR). Wow, what a fun day. The students got to use the phones to use the new AR app to see, “The Race to the Moon” by viewing rockets and the moon in AR. They were able to zoom in up close, see the inside of the command module and see the moon. They also saw De Vinci’s inventions, animals, the human body, and so much more.

An 8th Grader explained, “How cool it was to test a new app and see the images up close, and we got to tell them how to make it better.” Mrs Cafarella, the Computer Science Teacher at Lantana, just happened upon the site for the pilot and applied for the school to be included. She said “the students had a great time and the teachers that joined us did too. ”So, when the app is released with the AR added, the students can say, ‘I was part of the creation of that’.”
